Tanabe International English Guide Association (TIEGA) started in April, 2006. With the registration of the Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range of the UNESCO World Heritage list, sightseeing places along Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage Routes in Wakayama Prefecture have been in the spotlight both from within and outside of Japan. TIEGA is working toward training and educating guides who can guide people both in Japanese and in English.
We invite all to tread the paths that remain little changed over the ages.
Experience the struggle to overcome your tiredness. Know the joy of challenging the steep slopes – both up and down. Breathe in the crystal clear air and be revitalized. Gaze out over the vast expansive views of the Pacific and the undulating mountains of the Kii Peninsula from the trails along the many routes. Be at peace with yourself and the world. Each person experiences the Kumano ancient trails in their own way, and most come away more in tune with nature in heart, mind and soul.
